Reimagining Indian Schooling: An Analytical Study of the National Education Policy (2020) and Its Impact on School Education

Introduction:
The
National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 marks the dawn of a new era in the Indian
educational landscape. Approved after 34 years of the 1986 policy, it attempts
to address systemic challenges and align the nation’s education with global
standards. This policy envisions an education system rooted in Indian ethos,
yet oriented toward the future needs of the 21st century. It focuses on
holistic development, flexibility of learning, inclusivity, and critical
thinking. The NEP is not only a policy document but also a vision statement,
offering pathways for India to become a knowledge superpower. In school
education specifically, NEP 2020 introduces radical reforms that redefine
structures, curricula, pedagogy, assessments, and the role of teachers. This
research paper critically explores these reforms and their usefulness.
